Japanese designer Tsuyoshi Hayashi (based in Eindhoven, Netherlands) has taken discarded ceramic tiles -commonly used for traditional Japanese roofs  – to create curved seats for a series of stools and benches!

In Japan, each year more than 65,000 defective tiles are broken, collected to serve as foundations for roads or discarded ending up in the landfill.

His new  concept is called the  ‘Kawara’  bench  (in Japanese kawara” means “tile)!     Cool AND Clever!
